I hope you are enjoying a great summer. I am hearing great reports of successful vacation bible schools and summer camps. We just concluded a great camp meeting with Dr. Earle Wilson and Marcus Whitworth. Attendance was up and giving was great. Special thanks to all the churches that sent in your camp meeting offerings. The last day’s competition between Alabama and Auburn fans on who could give the most was an overwhelming victory for Alabama. Camp meeting 2014 will be July 2-6. Our speaker will be General Superintendent Emeriti Dr. Jim Diehl and song evangelist Marcus Whitworth. Plan to set aside these days for some great times spiritually and socially over the 4th of July.
Let me encourage you to begin making plans to attend the Ministers and Mates retreat at Winshape October 2-4.
I will be sending out a letter to encourage church boards to assist pastors and staff with expenses. This will be a time to relax and recharge spiritually. Our speaker will be General Superintendent, Dr. David Graves.
We also want to encourage our people to be involved in the following district activities:
1. Alabama North Primetime Retreat, August 16-18.
2. SDMI District Prayer Retreat, September 6-7.
3. Alabama North District Women’s Retreat, September 27-29.
Keep the following churches in your prayers as they are going through pastoral transition.
Cullman First – Greg Rickey interim
Huntsville Southeast – Henry Mills – interim
Also, pray for the Hueytown and Anniston churches as they seek direction for their future.
I read a quote this week that was very challenging: “We must learn the same lessons the disciples learned from walking with Jesus, His ministry is about touching people, healing the sick, feeding the poor, and saving the lost. We cannot minister without human contact! Kingdom ministry is ‘full contact’ activity!”
Are we doing Kingdom ministry? Are we just playing church? May God help us to minister like Jesus.
Live as Christ,
I am excited to begin this new journey in ministry. I look forward to meeting with you and visiting your churches. We want to see the Alabama North District become a dynamic team contributing to the growth of the Kingdom of God. As your district leader it will be a joy to work together developing new and creative ways to reach people for Jesus Christ.
A few housekeeping items I would like to share with you as we get started:
Let’s promote Camp Meeting as a District Revival for Alabama North & South Nazarenes. Remember to send your Camp Meeting offering of $1.00 for the number you averaged in worship attendance last year. This is very important!
Let’s keep these events in prayer believing God to bring new Christians into the family.
3. Budget Payments
(District, World Evangelism, T.N.U. and Pensions)
Remember we are all part of a bigger team who are working together to change lives. Let’s be consistent in our monthly giving.
4. Ministry Team Retreat
October 2-4, 2013.
WinShape Retreat Center in Rome, GA.
Speaker, David Graves
Please see the attached form at the top, print it out and return it to register. I look forward to spending great time with you during this refreshing time. Please don't miss this opportunity for rest and restoring.
5. District Information
We will also be looking at the possibility of quarterly District Team Training Days and a District Revival.
I encourage you to pray for one another on the District. Let’s communicate with one another our prayer request and praise reports. I will be trying to meet with you guys on an individual basis and at zone pastor’s meetings. Also, I would like to make myself available to churches who feel they need revival but can’t afford to bring in an evangelist. I will be willing to conduct 3 – 4 revivals in small churches each year. Just let me know a good time for your church if you are interested.
Please make sure to download the 3 attachments for your church.
May God’s blessing be upon us as we journey together.
